Donating

I've heard that the donations page can be confusing.  Please note that the page is already coded for my run.  You don't have to enter anything further than your name, address and credit card information.

You might be also be interested to know that all donations go directly to the UM Comprehensive Cancer Center.  I am only given the total received and who has donated.

What I am doing and why

Hi!

I suspect that most of you who come here will already know me and as such know that one of my favorite past times is running.

It’s been a great “hobby” that’s enriched my life in many ways.  I’ve met a lot of incredible people and can now count many of those people as close friends, my health has improved and there is the satisfaction of having pushed myself beyond what I had thought was possible.  26.2 miles?!  Ten years ago I couldn’t run more than two miles!

I could ramble on about running but will spare you  . . . for now.

Now it is time to get beyond myself in a different way.  The running and all its aspects that I’ve enjoyed are still important for me but I thought that maybe I should see if it can help others.  I’m going to run in the 2011 National Marathon in Washington D.C. and am asking you and anyone else you might think would be interested to contribute to the University of Michigan’s Comprehensive Cancer Center.

This year’s National Marathon is on March 26th and is very close to the five year anniversary of dad’s passing from anaplastic thyroid cancer in 2006.  Our family was happy with the care dad received during his illness even though we knew almost from the start that it was going to be tough at best.  It is for this reason that you can find a link to the right that will allow you to donate directly to U.M.’s Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Thyroid Cancer Program. You can go to this link to learn more about thyroid cancer.

I hope that we can generate more than $5,000.00 in donations and possibly help make things easier in the future for other families that have to travel down this road.  I realize that the economy and the holidays might make things tight – believe me I know the feeling – but if you are able then please consider helping out.

I’ll be driving down to the National Marathon with my good friends, Jim Bologna and Haney Makled (Two guys who have dragged me up and over many a hill) and meeting up with another friend: first time marathoner Mike Freestone.

More news to follow.
